Teesside left it until the last few seconds to come from behind to beat Newcastle 26 – 20 and book a repeat performance of last years Northern Final with The Aces who beat the Celtics 16 – 0.
In the south both games showed that home field doesn’t always matter as Birmingham pulled ahead to a half time lead against Southampton and a scoreless second half stopped the Stags run for a repeat, 13 – 7 the Lions.
Bristol travelled cross-country to take on the undefeated Blades and gave a very clear message of their post Christmas form with a sound 43 – 6 win.
Loughborough will be fired up for the rematch in the Northern conference going into the game as number one seed for the second year running. But will it be enough to overcome the undoubted motivation the Cougars will have for a chance to put the record straight for the North after last years heavy Bowl defeat.
Bristol will have to stay on the road as they only qualified 3rd from their strong division. Having averaged over 33 points a game this year this will make for an interesting match up with Birmingham’s solid defence, the first team to hold the Stags offence to one score or less since 2004.
Winners of these two games win play for College Bowl XXI on Sunday 25th March at Butts Arena in Coventry. 2pm Kickoff, £5 on the gate.
